Strathpeffer is a small Victorian Village in Ross-shire. Once famous for its "healing" waters it was a favourite spot with people travelling from all over the country.
Whilst the Railway Station closed in the 1960's along with the original bathing/wash rooms, the Spa Pavillion (for Ballroom Dancing) and the rest of the Square remain popular today. The Pavillion has now been restored, and the Station is now well worth a visit with its Craft Shops and Exhibition rooms. A good Golf Course is set in the higher fringes of the valley if you fancy some well-needed practice!
The "Eagle" Stone resides at the lower end of the village marking the spot where a battle ended between the Munros & the MacKenzies. Kenneth Oure "the Brahan Seer" famous locally for predicting future events foretold that if the stone fell a third time the Valley would be flooded - it's now fairly securely concreted down!
With three major hotels and around 20 smaller establishments, 'The Strath' is an ideal base whether heading West to Ullapool & the Isle of Skye or East to Inverness & the Black Isle.
